Angkor Thom Entrance photo copyrighted by: Kazuo Lim Khee Boon Angkor Thom was a fortified city of some 10 sq km in
extent, which was built by Angkor's greatest king,
Jayavarman VII who ruled between 1181 and 1201. The sandstone ruins cover nine square km area and include a Hindu temple with a high pyramidal tower at it centre and surrounded by a larger temple complex and several buildings and monuments.
