Igreja de Sao Roque Chapels photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow The eight side chapels were furnished in the 16th C. and the 17th C. and decorated in
parts up until the 19th C.
One of its most beautiful chapels, the baroque Chapel of St. John the Baptist, commissioned
by King Joao V, was lavishly decorated with precious stones, exotic woods and richly
painted tiles during the country's most opulent period.
