The Mezquita dates back to the 10th century when Córdoba reached its zenith under a new emir,The Great Mosque of Cordoba was considered a
wonder of the medieval world by both Muslims and Christians. Built on a Visigothic site, which was probably the site of an earlier Roman temple. The Mosque underwent numerous subsequent changes: Abdar-Rahman III ordered a new minaret, while Al-Hakam II, in 961, enlarged the plan of the building and enriched the mihrab.
