Sagrada Familia Architect photo copyrighted by: Brian McMorrow Gaudi' officially took over construction on March 18,
1883 because of some disagreements between Del Villar and the council, represented by Juan Martorell Montells. Work on the project continued after Gaud?'s death
under the direction of Domènech Sugranyes but was
interrupted by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1935.
