The african lion photo copyrighted by: Jiri Bohdal African lions (Panthera leo) live in most of sub-Saharan Africa except in desert and rainforest habitats. Asiatic lions (P. l. persica) are slightly smaller than African lions and have shorter manes, thicker elbow and tail tufts, and longitudinal skin folds on their stomachs.
