The present building, designed by Sir Aston Webb, was begun in 1899, at which time the museum was given its
present name by Queen Victoria. At The Indian and South-East Asian Department,
the collection covers the arts of South and South-East
Asia, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Burma,
Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
